Angelababy is one of Asia’s most photographed stars. She also made the cover of Vogue US last month, where the fashion bible heralded her as the most iconic Chinese actress right now. It was high praise that triggered many Chinese netizens — something about how the model isn’t much of an actress to begin with. After all in China, Angelababy is best known not for her thespian abilities but for being one of the stars of variety show Running Man. In fact, the mother-of-one's onscreen performances in films like Independence Day: Resurgence have been derided by critics and moviegoers alike.

 

Nonetheless, Angelababy, who is married to Huang Xiaoming, is one China’s most popular stars — her 98 million Weibo followers is proof of that — where her every move and facial tick is dissected and talked about to death.

 

Most recently, the 30-year-old made an appearance on a Chinese variety show and viewers couldn’t take their eyes off how different she looks now.

 

The star, who is of Chinese-German descent, has battled plastic surgery rumours for years. In 2012, she sued a clinic who claimed in an article that she is an example of botched plastic surgery. In 2015, she even went for a facial examination to prove that she is au naturel.


 

This time round, netizens seem convinced that she has done something to her face, with many digging past photos of Angelababy and putting them next to screen grabs of her on the show. “She was very pretty, why did she get stuff done?”, wondered one netizen. “She looks so mean now, what a pity,” wrote another.

 

But those on Angelababy's side are claiming that she looks different because of the camera’s angle. There also some who suggest that her double eyelids are looking more pronounced because her eyelid tape wasn’t pasted properly. “It took so long for me to screengrab this but I did it!… Her double eyelid tape pasting skill is even worse than mine!” wrote one fan.
