Remember 'PPAP', the song which blew up the Internet in 2016?

Well, Piko Taro, the Japanese comedian behind the song, is back with another viral hit (well, it's actually more of a re-imagining of 'PPAP') to encourage people to “Wash! Wash! Wash! Wash!” their hands during this COVID-19 pandemic.

The 46-year-old made the announcement on Twitter on Sunday (Apr 5): “In a hurry, I made a new version of PPAP. What I want to tell the whole world is... Wash! Laugh! Pray!”

1 of 4 Wash your hands!

In the roughly 90-second clip titled ‘PPAP-2020-’, Piko Taro, whose real name is Kazuhito Kosaka, can be seen chanting and dancing to the tune of the original 'PPAP' song. He even appeared in his iconic leopard preen Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen get-up.

The only difference is in the lyrics, which goes: “I have a hand, I have a soap. Uh! Wash! Wash! Wash! Wash!”

He repeats the catchy ditty twice before ending with the same PPAP abbreviation, but this time, it stands for “Pray for People And Peace”.

He then says “We will win!” at the end of the song.

His video has almost three million views on YouTube at the time of writing. It was also ranked among the top five Twitter trends in Japan on Monday (Apr 6).

Meanwhile, Japanese boyband Arashi also released a new COVID-19-inspired song and it's called ‘Wash Your Hands’.

The group's five members, Satoshi Ono, Sho Sakurai, Masaki Aiba, Kazunari Ninomiya and Jun Matsumoto, also came up with a catchy dance to show their fans the correct hand washing technique.

The boys also released another video, this time of them in a toilet and giving a step-by-step tutorial on how to wash your hands the right way and also how to gently flick off excess water in the sink, which, if you ask us, is a really important lesson to learn too.

Oh, did we also mention that the chorus of both ‘PPAP-2020-’ and 'Wash Your Hands' lasts 20 seconds, which is the recommended amount of time one should take to wash their hands thoroughly. Surely singing along to these two songs would be more fun than humming ‘Happy Birthday’ twice every time you wash your hands.
