Just a month after her beloved pet dog Lucky crossed the rainbow bridge, Hongkong pop diva Sammi Cheng has lost her dad.

The 48-year-old revealed the news of his passing in an emotional post on Instagram yesterday (Dec 20), writing that she still cries when she thinks of them.

“I lost Lucky and my dad. After experiencing one pain after another, it hurts when I think of them and I still cry occasionally. I am still a regular person. Sometimes, I just allow myself to be strong and vulnerable at the same time,” she said.

Papa Cheng, who was over 80 years old, was admitted to hospital in October after he had taken ill. Sammi and her siblings took turns taking care of him when he was hospitalised for more than a month.

He passed away peacefully last month in the company of the family and he was laid to rest in a low-key funeral more than 10 days ago.

Sammi confessed that on the day of the funeral, she couldn't help but break down in tears as she watched her father lying peacefully in the coffin. Though she misses him, she seeks solace in knowing that he is no longer suffering.

“Looking at my dad in the photo, I miss him with a smile [because] ‘missing is also a kind of happiness, because we have each other's happiness’, she wrote.

Reminiscing about the time she spent with her dad, the pop diva said: “I really miss him. During this period, my dad was always in my mind. I want to hold on to every moment of his life, and even more so, I want to hold on to my father’s unconditional love.”

She added that when she looks up at the infinite stars twinkling in the sky, she feels her dad is among them, seemingly winking at her and telling her to “live well and continue to work hard and improve .

“Dad, I will. I definitely will. After crying and hurting, I will pull myself together. Dad, tell me which star are you in the sky. Please remember to blink at me every night,” she said.
