Hongkong actor Steven Ma is the literal embodiment of the phrase “lifelong learning”. The 48-year-old only just graduated with an executive MBA from Peking University in April this year, but he has already enrolled for another degree. This time round, the actor will be attending Hong Kong Baptist University’s School of Chinese Medicine.

1 of 3 You go, Steven!

Steven posted a screenshot of his admission notice on his Weibo on August 3, writing: “This will be yet another test of my time management skills! However, I’ve always believed that when there’s a will, there’s a way. I will try my best, and leave the rest to God. Anticipation! Looking forward to another learning journey!”

According to reports, Steven enrolled in a part-time Masters of Chinese Medicine degree, with classes scheduled to take place three times a week. He will first study the foundational courses for two years, after which he can choose to pursue further studies in the field.

If he chooses to take on the full-time, six year Chinese medicine course after achieving his Masters of Chinese Medicine, he will officially be licensed as a Chinese medicine doctor.

The actor reportedly took up the degree to fulfill his mother’s last wish. When Steven was six, his mum was diagnosed with cancer. Throughout her 22-year battle with cancer, Steven’s mum never gave up hope, and kept detailed records of the various Chinese medicine options available. Her research and newspaper clippings were eventually consolidated into two hardcover books, and have been kept carefully for 40 years.
