Is There Trouble In Paradise For Jackie Chan’s Daughter Etta Ng and Her Wife?
Deleting pictures = End of relationship?
In November 2018, Jackie Chan’s estranged 19-year-old daughter Etta Ng married her 31-year-old girlfriend, Canadian influencer Andi Autumn. The news made international headlines — their nuptials were featured on news sites from Apple Daily to BBC to People magazine — and the couple became one of the most famous gay couples in the world.
In true millennial fashion, the couple had announced their official union via an Instagram selfie where they were seen holding up their marriage cert. They had tied the knot in Canada, where same sex marriage is legal.
But life didn't go as well for the pair in Canada and they were rumoured to be homeless and jobless, with their savings depleting as fast as one of Jackie Chan's roundhouse kicks. They decided to return to Hongkong to seek help from Etta’s mum, Elaine Ng aka Jackie's former mistress. And since their arrival, Etta and Andi Autumn have become major paparazzi targets.
Elaine and Etta have a notoriously tumultuous relationship, and Elaine has publicly expressed her dislike for Andi. Elaine also allegedly refuses to speak to Andi because she’s believes the latter is a “bad influence” on Etta, who according to Elaine, has become lazy after meeting Andi.
It's said that the former beauty queen refers to her daughter-in-law as “this foreign woman” and that she suspects Andi has an ulterior motive for marrying Etta. According to reports, Etta might inherit some of Jackie's massive HK$3bil (S$520mil) fortune, and Elaine feels that Andi is nothing more than a gold digger.
Recently, a Hongkong reporter contacted Etta to ask if she thinks that she would be getting a share of Jackie’s inheritance in the future. According to the journo, Etta reportedly burst out laughing and said: “Haha how much can I get if I fight for the inheritance? Can I have a share?”
Most recently on July 15, netizens discovered that Etta and Andi have deleted each other’s photos on their respective Instagram accounts. After their Instagram cleanse, Andi is left with just one post on her account and it comes with this cryptic message: “Bye bye social media. I’m on a mission.” On the other hand, Etta deleted everything except 20 pics of herself.
This unusual move sparked rumours that their marriage may be on the rocks. After all, according to unspoken millennial rules, if you delete pics of your significant other on social media, it means your relationship is over.
But Etta has since come out to refute the rumours surrounding her relationship. She insists that she and Andie are still together, and that she decided to quit social media due to the many comments she receives on the app and how it distracts her from work.
“I don’t need social media for the time being because I’m really busy working. I need to make money, so I don't have time for this. My phone buzzes non-stop because people keep leaving messages. It’s annoying,” Etta said.
Speaking of work, it's said that Andi suffers from a psychological disorder that makes her anxious in public, thus making it physically impossible for her to find a job.
