TVB actress Mary Hon made headlines in 2019 when she was hospitalised with meningitis. And at that time, those who visited her were worried that she wouldn’t survive the illness.

Mary, 66, recently opened up about that ordeal in an interview, saying: “In the past, I’d never visit a doctor even when I was sick. But in 2019, my husband told me to go to the hospital when I had a fever because I looked extremely frail.”

“I honestly don’t have any recollection of what happened after the doctor told me that I had to be hospitalised, she said. I don’t have any memory of the three weeks that I was warded, but a nurse told me that there were nights where I would grab my bag and try to take the elevator [and exit the building].

When they stopped me, I asked them: “Why are you stopping me from going to work? I have two important scenes to film today, so I have to leave now.’

During the first week of her hospitalisation, Mary could only stomach one egg a day and she would cry if the doctor tried to coax her into eating more.

Her husband, actor To Yin For, stayed by her side throughout those three weeks and even dropped out of all his projects to care for her.

“I used to neglect him, but after what happened, I prayed that I would become enamoured with him again, Mary said. I’m grateful that my prayers were answered and I started to look at him in a new light. In the past, I used to find that certain things he did were stupid. Now, I find those same actions adorable.”
