Just like its name, Call Me By Fire is the hottest show in China now. And two of its contestants, Taiwanese singer Terry Lin, 55, and Chinese martial arts legend Vincent Zhao, 49, just made it hotter. Literally.

On a recent episode, the contestants were informed that they would be swapping rooms. Rapper MC Hotdog remarked that the move might take some getting used to as every room is different, which led Vincent, who shares a room with Terry, to say: “We don’t turn on the aircon in our room (…) Terry said that [his] throat would get dry if we do.”

1 of 2 Vincent's remarks caused quite a stir

After the episode aired, netizens blasted Terry for being “very selfish” and for “making Vincent suffer in the heat with him”.

Some netizens even attacked Terry on his Weibo and that led the singer to post a clarification.

“It was Vincent who said that having the aircon on is bad for health, and that it was better for us not to use it as much as possible, Terry wrote. I accepted his suggestion and [after a few days], I realised that it wasn’t that bad to sleep without it. I assumed that he wanted to keep it that way because he didn’t say otherwise. Personally, I quite like to sleep with the aircon on. I always have it on at home.”

2 of 2 Terry was not about to get flamed for no reason

Netizens, who were on Vincent's side earlier, then turned on the actor, criticising him for “pushing the blame onto others”.

Vincent decided to clear the air once and for all with this Weibo message: “Thanks everyone for your concern! I mentioned that I wanted to change rooms, but that had nothing to do with the aircon situation. Please rest assured that we get along very well! We love this show and our teams, and we’ll do our best to put on a great performance for everyone.”
