Hongkong actor Wayne Lai, who’s been in showbiz since 1986, has probably seen it all.

However, there’s one particular female co-star who left such a lasting impression on him, that he’s unable to forget about it, even till today.

And no, it wasn’t a good impression. Not at all.

1 of 4 Who made Wayne so mad?

According to the 56-year-old, who spilled the tea to fellow actor Louis Yuen on the talkshow they co-host, he once filmed a period drama with a particular actress who was repeatedly late for filming.

As they had to film atop a mountain, the entire team had to walk around 20 minutes to reach the peak. However, upon reaching their destination, the crew often realised that the actress was either late, or a total no-show. As a result, they often had to resort to shooting with the actress’ stand-in.

Wayne also had to return to the mountain on another day, just to make up for scenes that the production team didn’t manage to film in time, no thanks to that tardy actress.

“Two crew members had to accompany the actress, and [we all had to] walk up the mountain again, and film on another day. You know that filming in period costumes is extremely tiring, and we had to walk up a mountain too, I was really beside myself with anger at that time,” the usually good-natured Wayne ranted.

However, what ticked Wayne off the most, was not her tardiness. Rather, it was how she appeared unbothered by her actions, smiling and joking about as if everything was okay.

“That was why I was so angry, if she felt that she had done something wrong, she wouldn't be late again. She just pretended as if the incidents never took place,” he said.

After listening to Wayne’s words, Louis laughed that the actress probably doesn’t have much work nowadays.

To Louis’ surprise, Wayne shared that the actress is just as popular today.

And of course, the internet being the internet, they immediately got down to compiling a list of actresses Wayne has filmed period dramas with.

Of the many actresses, Hongkong actresses Maggie Cheung, Bernice Liu, Sonija Kwok and Niki Chow were “shortlisted”, as they all have a reputation for turning up late for work.

Hongkong actress Jessica Hsuan once criticised Maggie, with whom she filmed the 1997 TVB drama Old Time Buddy, for being late to shoots and for always breaking out in laughter mid-scene. Maggie filmed The Conqueror’s Story with Wayne in 2004.

According to reports, Sonija’s tardiness was so bad that when she was filming On The First Beat in 2006, the production crew boycotted her after the project. Wayne worked with Sonija for two period dramas, The Greatness Of A Hero, which aired in 2009, and 2015's Under The Veil Of Romance.

Meanwhile Bernice, who filmed The Greatness Of A Hero and the 2007 drama Devil’s Disciples with Wayne, was reportedly sidelined ‘cos of her frequent lateness. She also reportedly fell out with Hongkong actor Bowie Lam ‘cos of her bad attitude.

Finally, Niki, who starred alongside Wayne in the 2005's The Gentle Crackdown, was reported as being constantly late and putting on airs while filming Under The Canopy Of Love in 2006.
