In 2013, Hongkong action star Donnie Yen was criticised by Chinese netizens for being a “heartless father” when it was reported that he did not visit his eldest son Jeff when he was hospitalised and had to go for a lung operation. (In case you didn't know, Jeff is Donnie's son from his first marriage to advertising executive Leung Zing Ci.) According to rumours, the action star had ignored his ex-wife's pleas to visit their son because he was “busy with work”.

Fast forward six years later, and it seems Donnie has to brace himself for another round of accusations when it was reported that he didn't show up for now 24-year-old Jeff's graduation from the prestigious Hongkong University.

When reports about his absence surfaced, his current wife, Canadian beauty queen Cecilia Wang was quick to come to his rescue. “Yes, Jeff did have a graduation ceremony, but Donnie couldn’t make it because of work, said Cecilia, who has a son and daughter with Donnie. Jeff is very understanding as well, telling us not to worry about it, because there’s still chance next time to take photos. Actually, we already celebrated his graduation in advance last December. It was a lively celebration and we even had cake.

Despite the reports, the 55-year-old is on good terms with Jeff. Father and son hang out regularly and Donnie even posted this photo of the two of them at Jeff’s birthday celebration in April.

Jeff is also close to Cecilia and her kids with Donnie — Jasmine, 15, and James, 12. According to reports, he was there when the family celebrated Father’s Day, as well as a New Year’s and Christmas last year.
