Zhang Ziyi Is 7 Months Pregnant, And Weighs Less Than Some Of Us After A Huge Hotpot Dinner

Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi set the internet abuzz yesterday (Oct 28) when she broke the news that she was pregnant with her second child with husband, 48-year-old rocker Wang Feng, with this picture. In case you didn't realise, we're referring to the photo on the right, where she's embracing her barely-there baby bump.

The 40-year-old star is seven months preggers, and yes, she looks just like regular plebs after a huge dinner at Haidilao. In fact, in her pregnancy announcement on Weibo, she let in that she weighs just 58kg. Yes, 58kg.

ZZY has been plagued with pregnancy rumours since earlier this year, having stopped all work since her last public appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The couple has been super low-key about the pregnancy, and would only respond with a cryptic “Make a guess?” every time reporters brought up the topic.However, she finally confirmed the rumours when turned up at the 2019 Tokyo International Film Festival with a baby bump, 30 weeks into the pregnancy.

“I’m here to share my joy with you all. Today, I come as President of Jury at the 32nd Tokyo International Film Festival.,” she posted the good news on Weibo after the event. “However, I have another special identity today. A mother who is dedicated, professional, and loves her work is now 30 weeks pregnant and weighs 116 jin (58kg),which will continue to increase. Both identities make me very proud. Thank you everyone for your care and support,” she wrote.

Well wishes have been pouring in, but of course netizens also had opinions about how the 1.65m-tall star tips the scales at a mere 58kg, despite her due date just two months away. Not only did Ziyi not gain much weight, she appears to be holding on to her barely-there baby bump in these snapshots. If we didn’t know better, we’d think she’d just been going for one too many late-night suppers.

There's been speculation that one of the reasons behind Ziyi’s slim figure is probably due to her strict diet and self-discipline. In a vlog entry in May, when ZZY was two months preggers, the star was filmed tucking into a bowl of instant noodles. However, she only ate four mouthfuls of noodles when she declared that it was enough before pushing the rest of the pot to her assistant.

Nonetheless, the anticipation of the arrival of Ziyi’s second child with Wang Feng is sky-high. The couple have a three-year-old daughter, Xing Xing, but have always mentioned in interviews that they wanted more kids. Ziyi even once said that she wanted to fulfil Wang Feng’s wishes of having a son, as he already has two daughters from previous marriages.
