Zhang Ziyi’s latest drama, Monarch Industry, has been setting tongues wagging ever since its premiere, with comments ranging from the incredulous (calling the gorgeous Angie Chiu “too old”?!) to the absolutely hilarious. Like how Ziyi’s outfits have been likened to various food items.

In the drama, the 41-year-old actress plays a noblewoman who’s forced into an arranged marriage, which means, yes, loads of elaborate period costumes for viewers to ogle.

But apart from gushing over her outfits, it appears that a few netizens have gotten really creative when talking about her costumes.

On January 13, Ziyi took to her Weibo with a screenshot of a WeChat message her friend had sent her. Apparently, said friend had found a picture online comparing the actress' costumes in the drama to a number of items, including a multi-coloured corn on the cob.

Ziyi promptly replied with a meme of her own — a screenshot of her character looking very bemused, with a single tear flowing down her face, with the words “I'll continuing living on with a smile on my face”, before posting the entire exchange online.

“I really want to know, just how imaginative everyone else can get,” she wrote in her caption.

And of course, her fans delivered, sharing even more pictures comparing her outfits to various things, from a giraffe, to a bottle of dye, and to even soft-serve.
