The 2020 Baeksang Arts Awards, AKA The ‘Oscars of Korea’, To Be Streamed Live Exclusively On meWATCH On June 5

‘Parasite’, ‘Crash Landing On You’ and ‘Kingdom’ are the top nominees.

Mediacorp will stream the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards live via meWATCH on Friday (June 5) at 3.50pm (SG Time).

This is the first time the annual event — which honours outstanding achievements in South Korean movies, TV shows and theatre productions — available for free to Singapore viewers. The ceremony, to be held at the Kintex in Ilsan, was originally planned for May 1, but was postponed due COVID-19 concerns.

Hosted by Park Bo-Gum, Suzy and Shin Dong-Yup, the rescheduled show will proceed without an audience.

In the movies category, Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite — which has already made history at the Oscars when it became the first non-English film to win Best Picture — is vying for a few awards, including Best Picture.

The other contenders are the political thriller The Man Standing Next, the coming-of-age tale House of Hummingbird, the action-comedy Exit, and the #MeToo drama Kim Ji-Young: Born 1982.

Elsewhere, Crash Landing on You, Kingdom, Hyena, When the Camellia Blooms, and Stove League are gunning for top honours in the TV section. Click here for the full nomination list.

At press time, it’s confirmed that Kim Soo-Hyun and Seo Ye-Ji, stars of the upcoming It’s Okay to Not be Okay, will be presenting Best Drama and Best Picture awards, while Kim Yoo-Jung and Im Siwan are giving out the TikTok Popularity Awards.

Other presenters include Lee Byung-Hun, Yum Jung-Ah, Han Ji-Min, Lee Sung-Min, Go-Soo, Ahn So-Hee, Park Hae-Joon, Kwon So-Hyun, Lee Jung-Eun, Kim Byung-Chul, Jang Seung Jo, Lee Elijah, Jin Sun-Kyu, Seo Yi-Sook, Sung Soo-Yeon, and Jun Hyun-Moo.

Remember: the 56th Baeksang Arts Award will be streamed live on meWATCH on June 5, 3.50pm-7pm. The live cast will not carry English subtitles. The subtitled version will be available on VOD (it's free!) the next day until June 18.
