Scott Eastwood On His Failed Twilight Audition To Play Edward: “This Is Stupid!”

The 'Wrath of Man' star said he didn't try hard enough in the audition.

Imagine this: Scott Eastwood, not Robert Pattinson, could have played Edward Cullen, the angsty, whispery and sparkling vampire in Twilight — if only he’d taken the audition seriously.

Speaking to Variety’s ‘Just for Variety’ column, Eastwood, 35, said he wasn’t keen about playing Edward in the first place.

“I remember thinking, ‘This is stupid!’, I don’t even know why I am on this audition. This is such a YA (Young Adult) movie,” the Pacific Rim: Uprising star recalled. “I don’t think I really tried all that hard, and it was just like, I’m going to just do it and go through the motions. Then the movie turns into seven movies and Robert Pattinson has made a quadrillion dollars.”

Eastwood, who’s currently starring in the Jason Statham revenge thriller Wrath of Man, added, “Then I was thinking, ‘Ya may have wanted to try maybe just a little bit.”

In the end, the search for Edward was reportedly down to Pattinson, Ben Barnes, Shiloh Fernandez, and Jackson Rathbone. The latter didn’t land the part but was cast as Edward’s adoptive brother Jasper.

Edward isn’t the high-profile role the son of Clint Eastwood read for. In 2016, he revealed that he auditioned for Chris Pratt’s part in the sci-fi thriller Passengers. Eastwood also tried out for Captain America, the iconic role which eventually went to Chris Evans.
