Free Online Screenings Of Wild Rice’s Most Popular Shows From Apr 24: What To Watch And When To Watch Them

The folks at Wild Rice want to bring the theatre into your home during this circuit breaker, and will stream three of its most popular and successful shows online for free. Part of the local theatre company’s Wild@Home series, each production will be available on Wild Rice’s YouTube channel for seven days. It kicks off with Emily of Emerald Hill, streaming from Apr 24 at 7.30pm onwards.
At the end of each week-long cycle, audiences can tune in for a live talkback sesh with the artists involved in the respective productions. It happens every Thursday at 9pm.

Ivan Heng dons the sarong kebaya to take on the eponymous role of Emily Gan. The critically-acclaimed production delves into the colourful rags-to-riches story of the titular character, and follows her journey from abandoned child to powerful Peranakan matriarch.

A heartwarming tale of a retiree who’s been rendered wheelchair-bound after a stroke. As he comes to terms with his physical setback, his daughter hires a domestic worker to look after him. Supervision shines a light on love, family, and surveillance in Singapore. Expect laughs, and perhaps some tears.

You may already know the story of Wukong, Pigsy, Sandy and Ah Tang, but this local take on the classic Chinese tale Journey to the West will leave you in stitches. For starters, this motley crew will be singing in this light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek musical that’d be a joy to watch for the whole family.
