How do you celebrate a birthday in style? For Andaz Singapore, they do it by splashing out a flash sale where there are up to 70 per cent off staycation and dining deals, from Oct 1 to 9.

There are over 20 offers the hotel is rolling out during the flash sale, including a one-night stay in a Residence Suite for $550, and comes with $100 dining credits, so you're essentially paying $450 per night. There’s also a two-night stay in a King bed room that'll set you back by $550, and includes breakfast for two and $100 dining credits, so it works out to over $220 per night. Not too shabby at all. Or if you want to go the whole nine yards, splash out on a stay at the Andaz Presidential Suite for $1,000, that includes breakfast for two and $200 worth of dining credits, which works out to about $800 a night for a stay in the top-tier suite.

It isn’t a birthday without some surprises, and the urban chic design hotel is also selling $100 Mystery Boxes, each promising secret deals worth at least $180 from Andaz Singapore or Grand Hyatt Singapore. Among these are experiences at Mr Stork, Andaz Singapore’s rooftop bar where you can savour tipples in cute teepees.

The vouchers you snag during the sale are not actual bookings, but have to be redeemed separately when you book your staycation dates. Is it worth splashing your cash here, though? 8Days recently checked in for a one-night stay at Andaz Singapore to find out.
1 of 1 Staycation Review: What a stay at Andaz Singapore is like

The hotel occupies Level 25 to 39 of DUO Tower, but due to the pandemic, check-in is now done at Level 2. From the looks of it, it can get quite busy (it is a hot fave among staycationers after all), but you’re served complimentary cuppa from a cute pushcart while you wait to check in.

One of the first things we notice when we check into our King Bay View Deluxe Room is is, well, the view that’s suitably showcased, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows. The day blinds and blackout curtains are powered by buttons by the bed. The less hassle on a staycation, the better. We approve.

The sleek wooden finishings in the room lend an urban luxe feel, and thoughtful touches such as a speaker next to the plush bed lets you connect your device to play tunes of your choice are a bonus.

A generously-sized walk-in wardrobe comes with an artfully hidden ironing board and iron. Those who are planning to take some nice snaps in creaseless clothes at the hotel’s acclaimed (and picturesque) Mr Stork rooftop bar — will appreciate this. The adjoining bathroom has a segmented wet and dry area, and the WC is in a separate room, leaving you plenty of space to wash up, or take a mirror selfie in the understatedly luxurious bathroom, even in the absence of a bathtub (only suites are outfitted with tubs).

There are a couple of nice touches with in-room amenities, such as TWG tea bags and a Nespresso machine, as well as a complimentary mini bar where a small selection of non-alcoholic drinks and chocolate are free of charge. You may still end up peckish, but it’s nothing the shops conveniently located downstairs at Duo Tower or in the Bugis vicinity can’t solve.

Like most hotels right now, you have to pre-book timeslots for the pool and gym (booking opens 72 hours prior to check-in).

The pool does get a little busy so go early during your designated time slot to snag a nice sunbed. With spectacular views from the infinity pool, little wonder everyone’s eager to get in for a photo.

Breakfast is at Alley on 25, and pre-booking a timeslot for brekkie is also required. We get a table with a magnificent view of Parkview Square, and pick from the a la carte breakfast menu that would be served to our table. Service was prompt, even though the place was buzzing with activity.

A few things to note. The hotel is undergoing renovations until mid-November so certain areas at are hoarded up and steakhouse 665°F Steakhouse and Chinese restaurant Auntie’s Wok are not open during this time. That said, it didn’t affect our staycay experience (we hardly heard any renovation noise while we were there). With a plethora of dining options nearby, we had dinner at a restaurant five minutes away, then traipsed back for drinks at Mr Stork, a great way to unwind at the end of the day.

Getting here by public transport is probably more economical, as there is no complimentary parking provided, a point that the hotel notes on its website. If you’re checking in at 3pm and checking out at 12pm, be prepared to pay about $27 for parking on weekdays. Probably fortunate then, that you’d have snagged some big savings from Andaz Singapore’s flash sale.

Andaz Singapore is at 5 Fraser Street. Andaz Flash Sale is on from Oct 1, 9am, until Oct 9, 9pm, over here. More info here.
