Trailer Watch: Jackie Chan, Louis Koo, Michael Hui Battle Quarantine Fatigue In All U Need Is Love

The COVID-19-inspired ensemble feature opens in cinemas Apr 22.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, so the saying goes. That is what director and frequent Stephen Chow co-star Vincent Kok (Mr and Mrs Incredible) is doing with his latest offering All U Need is Love.

A joint effort involving 10 film companies, the Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild and the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers, All U Need is Love is a benefit effort for the local film industry workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ensemble feature revolves around a fictional hotel that becomes the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak. The guests are forced to undergo a 14-day quarantine. During this time, the occupants find ways to kill time and bond with one another.

The ensemble includes Louis Koo, Jackie Chan, Michael Hui, Francis Ng, Julian Cheung, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, Eric Tsang, Louis Cheung, Chrissie Chau, Candice Yu, Yuen Qiu and Carlos Chan.

Hongkong box-office earnings dropped 72 per cent to HK$537 million (S$93.08 mil) last year. During this period, only 218 new movies opened last year — a dip from 2019’s 319 — with only 34 local productions. In the 1980s and early 1990s, more than 200 films were released every year.

Check out the trailer for All You Need is Love, which opens in cinemas Apr 22.
