Show Luo proves he's as good a stand-up comedian as he is a pop idol at Singapore concert

The 44-year-old Taiwanese singer made us laugh and laugh some more at his concert last Saturday (Oct 7) at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

We've come to expect stellar vocals and energetic dance numbers at Mandopop concerts, but a star who can do that and also make his fans laugh from start till end, well, there's probably only Show Luo.

We're sure the 7,000 fans who, um, showed up at the Singapore Indoor Stadium last Saturday (Oct 7) for the 44-year-old Taiwanese star's World Tour Evolution 2023 concert would agree with 8days.sg.

In fact, Show might as well be a stand-up comedian at this point.

After starting the concert with a dance segment comprising his latest dance tracks 'Show Lo', 'No Joke', 'That's Enough' and 'Trap Game', Show shared that it's been six years since he last performed in Singapore.

"Can you guys understand Cantonese? Or Mandarin?," he asked.

When a fan shouted "English!", Show, who is not fluent at all in English, retorted: "You must be kidding. I can speak Mandarin here why would I speak in English?".

While the past few years of Show's career has been mired in controversy, that doesn't mean he's afraid of wading into other controversial topics himself.

Like when he brought up Sing! China during the love ballads segment, which saw him singing his hits like  'Good Friends', 'Clownfish', 'Love Corner', the latter song getting the biggest cheers from the audience.

"There are many cameras here and they might pan to you later. If a song touches you and you want to cry, let it out. Have you watched Sing! China? Many of the audience would cry like something huge really happened."

To his surprise, his fans screamed "Pay [us] money!" in response.

"Pay money and you will act for me? How much per person? S$5 for one tear, S$10 for two lines? S$20 for a breakdown and S$50 you'll hit your chest?," asked Show.

He also played a prank on the audience.

When speaking about the theme songs he has sung for his idol dramas Corner With Love, Hot Shot, and Hi My Sweetheart, he asked the audience to pick their favourite show.

The unanimous answer was Hi My Sweetheart, which also starred Rainie Yang.

"Okay! If that's the case, let us welcome Rainie Yang!," shouted Show. At this point, the entire stadium went nuts.

"You guys really believed me? Your screams were louder than when I first appeared on stage. What are you guys doing?" said Show, pretending to be hurt.

"The guy [over there] was just yawning but now he is like, 'Wah Rainie Yang!'" he added for effect.

In China there's Joker Xue and in Taiwan there's Jokester Luo?

While that prank backfired, Show is still proud of how big of a jokester he is.

"I don't know why, when people come for my concerts, they love to hear me speak. When I went to the States, I was invited to perform at a casino. That was the scariest, because the casinos would give their VIPs the tickets and they all don't know who I am," he recalled.

"They were all playing blackjack and after they lose money, they said: "Okay let's go watch the concert". Those who lost are the scariest. The first row would be filled with VIPs and they would all... [Show proceeds to look angry}."

He then said all he could do was to "talk to make them happy".

See, told you he should be a stand-up comedian.

Show with a lucky fan who "grew up listening to him"

If you think the star was the only funny person at the concert, you're wrong. His fans are quite the comedians themselves too.

Just look at this lady (see pic above) whose conversation with Show when he walked into the audience to interact with his fans had everyone erupting in laughter.

"Do you know who I am?" said Show to the very excited woman.

"Show Luo lah!," she replied.

He then asked what project of his made her a fan, and the woman, who revealed that she was 56, said: "Corner With Love. It's been so long. I grew up listening to your songs!"

"You grew up listening to me?! Look at the camera! Are you sure, jie jie?," asked an incredulous Show while making the woman turn to face the camera.

Show and Wang Lei who said his appearance at the concert was a coincidence. Huh?

Show also found a familiar face among the audience.

The singer was singing 'Bai Gei Ni' — his 2007 duet with Elva Hsiao — when he suddenly yelled: "Stop!"

The reason? He spotted getai star Wang Lei.

"Thank you for coming! Are you happy today?" Show said after Wang Lei gave him a hug.

"I'm super happy. It's such a coincidence that I bumped into you here! We met by chance!" replied Wang Lei, who was clearly trying to be funny.

"Huh? I'm here of course you would bump into me. You mean we met by chance at this stadium?," laughed Show, who was at a loss for words for the only time that night.
