Simu Liu Waxed His Entire Body For Margot Robbie's Barbie: "Waxing Has Been An Education"

The Shang-Chi star now has a "newfound admiration for the incredibly brave women who go through this on a monthly basis."

Simu Liu has been waxing his body for the new Barbie movie.

Liu, 33, admits that getting his body waxed for the Mattel doll-inspired movie, in which he appears alongside Margot Robbie, has been a "painful" experience.

He told The Independent: "Waxing has been an education, to say the least. It was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I have such a newfound admiration for the incredibly brave women who go through this on a monthly basis."

Rumour has it that the Shang-Chi star is playing one of several Ken dolls in the Greta Gerwig-directed movie and that would explain the wax — to make his body smooth and hair-free. Just like a doll.

But Liu is mum on the movie's plot and he likes that so little is still known about the project.

He said, "Honestly, the discourse online is giving me life. With every casting announcement or bit of news, they’re like: ‘What is this?’ And that’s perfect the less you know about it the better."

Liu previously described Barbie to GQ UK as "wild and "incredibly unique," adding, "I wish I could just show you what we do day-to-day because it's crazy."

Liu recently released his memoir We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story, and was named by Time as one of The World's Most Influential People.

Barbie will open in Singapore cinemas July 20, 2023.  — BANG SHOWBIZ
