Stars Who Got Into Fights In Public

Violence is never the answer to anything though.

Will Smith’s slapdown of Chris Rock on Oscar night will no doubt be one of the most talked-about showbiz moments of the year, if not, the most meme-able.

Of course, celebs getting into physical fights isn’t a new thing. After all, when the going gets tough, some people choose to get very rough.

Here are some other stars who got into very public brawls too.

In 2009, the Malaysian singer was caught on camera having a heated argument with his pal, Hongkong singer Justin Lo, on a Hongkong street after having drinks at a bar. It soon escalated to an exchange of fisticuffs, their friends pulling them apart before things got too serious.Brawl brothers

A literal street fight between Gary and Justin.

At one point, when it seemed like things had died down, Gary and Justin got into a cab with two other friends only to have the car make an emergency stop seconds later. Gary was seen alighting and challenging Justin to a fight.

He then started kicking at Justin who was still seated in the backseat.

When Justin got off the cab, he was seen covering his groin with his hands and grimacing in pain.

Then Gary picked up a road sign and tried to attack Justin with it. Thankfully, he was stopped by their friends.Danger sign

At a press conference to address the incident, Gary admitted that he and Justin had too much to drink that night and that a misunderstanding happened between them. He apologised to his friend and promised to watch his drinking. Right…

Gary’s career never really recovered from the scandal and he has gone on to clock a few more alcohol-induced misdemeanours.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2015, the Hong Kong All-Star Sports Association Ltd football team went on an exhibition tour around China. But what was supposed to be a friendly game with a Guangxi team ended up as a, how do we put this, all-star brawl.

The Hongkong All-Star team, which featured actors like Felix Wong, Cheung Siu Fai and captain Alan Tam, were leading 6-1 when things got really heated. A reckless challenge — one of the many by the increasingly frantic opposing mainland team — resulted in the players getting into a massive fight on the field.

Security had to intervene and the match was called off.

According to spectators, who posted clips of the brawl on Weibo, Felix, who famously played pugilist Guo Jing in The Legend of The Condor Heroes, showed off the martial arts training he has had, including the powerful but also very fictional ‘Eighteen Subduing Dragon Palms’ technique.

It was even rumoured that Felix had singlehandedly taken down three players from the opposing team.felix wong condor

Remember this?

After the match, Alan told the press that both teams made up in the changing room and even went for dinner together.

Here’s another public slap between long-time friends that made headlines.

Back in 2015, screen icon Patrick Tse attended a press con for a TVB travelogue he hosted with three of his pals, Kenneth Tsang, Wu Fung, 90, and Joe Junior, 75.

All was good until Patrick was asked about his experience filming the show.

He revealed that he was very unhappy but declined to say more until TVB’s top execs left the room.

Patrick then complained about how Kenneth, whom he referred to as “crippled”, sat in a wheelchair for most of the shoot and acted “as if he was making fun of us”.

Patrick would go on to curse at Kenneth, who made the news the day before for having a nosebleed that lasted for four hours, accusing him of faking of his illness.

He then lunged forward to slap Kenneth but was blocked by Wu Fung. In the ensuing scuffle, Wu Fung’s glasses were knocked askew and Kenneth’s hearing aid dropped out of his ear.

Post-slap, Patrick told reporters he already had beef with Kenneth because of another work incident earlier in the week. He also said he held back his slap then because they were in the TVB campus.

On the other hand, Kenneth said he wasn’t angry at Patrick and that the latter’s hand didn’t make contact with his face.
