Takeshi Kaneshiro Will Not Work In Locations That Have No “Computers Or Internet Access”, Says HK Director Peter Chan

He revealed that the reclusive 48-year-old actor needs certain requirements to be met before he agrees to be part of a movie.

Hong Kong director Peter Chan, 59, recently appeared as a guest on ViuTV talk show Director’s Gate, where he shared stories about working with famous stars, including Maggie Cheung, Leon Lai and Takeshi Kaneshiro.

While speaking about Takeshi, Peter finally addressed the question on everybody’s minds: Why is the 48-year-old actor so selective when it comes to appearing in movies?

Turns out, Takeshi “basically doesn’t really want to act and will find 100 excuses to turn down [jobs],” revealed Peter.

Of all the films he's been in, Takeshi has worked with Peter the most times

Peter and Takeshi have a relatively close friendship and have worked together on three movies, Perhaps Love (2005), The Warlords (2007) and Wu Xia (2011).

It wasn’t easy for Peter to convince the reclusive actor to be in his movies though. According to the director, Takeshi needed certain requirements to be met before agreeing to anything.

For example, Takeshi would not accept a filming location that “doesn't have access to computers or the internet”. He is also unwilling to travel to far-flung areas that were “out of his comfort zone”.

Peter added that it was really hard to get Takeshi to act in his movies and that he needed “at least half a year” before winning the star over. Takeshi, Peter said, is a "self-conscious person" with "subjective opinions", and would need to feel comfortable before saying yes to any project.

The information shared by Peter has only served to confirm rumours that the enigmatic, elusive Takeshi is simply a “homebody” who prefers the company of his computer.
