These Are The Best Places To Watch National Day Fireworks In Singapore

Fireworks are lighting up our skies once more. Here’s where to go to see them.

Dazzling National Day fireworks displays are back once more to add some sparkle to our night skies. But you don’t have to wait until the National Day Parade (NDP) on Aug 9 to get your firework fix and Instagram opps — you can catch the glittering displays in July during the NDP previews on Jul 23 and 30 as well.

Whether you want to catch it for free or splurge on a meal and a front row sky-high seat to the show, the options are aplenty. But one thing’s for sure: watching fireworks has become somewhat of a national pastime, so it’s essential to go early to chope a spot or make a reservation ahead of time. Psst, the NDP fireworks display usually happens around 8.15pm to 8.25pm.

#1: Marina Bay

The NDP is taking place at The Float @ Marina Bay this year, so it goes without saying that the best seats in the house are around Marina Bay. The good news: Most of them are free, so pack some snacks, a picnic mat and chope your spot. The bad news: Be prepared to go at least a couple of hours early.

Here are a few popular public spots in and around Marina Bay to catch NDP fireworks for free:

  • Marina Bay Waterfront (next to Marina Bay Sands)
  • The Promontory and The Lawn @ Marina Bay (11 Marina Boulevard)
  • Helix Bridge (next to ArtScience Museum)
  • Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay (1 Esplanade Drive)
  • Merlion Park (1 Fullerton Rd)
  • Marina Barrage (8 Marina Gardens Dr)

#2: Bay East Garden @ Gardens by the Bay

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the Supertrees and Flower Dome of Gardens by the Bay is a serene expanse of greenery that is the Bay East Garden, which leads directly to Tanjong Rhu and East Coast Park.

While this calm oasis has now become somewhat of an open secret, there’s still plenty of space to catch splendid views of the sparkling fireworks displays. To get here, walk or cycle from Rhu Cross, Marina Barrage or Bay South Garden.
Bay East Garden is at 18 Marina Gardens Drive.

#3: Fireworks in the heartlands

This year’s NDP extravaganza extends to the heartlands as well, with fireworks displays taking place on Aug 9 from 8.15pm to 8.25pm — the same time as the fireworks displays as the main NDP in Marina Bay — at five spots across the island:

  • Jurong West Stadium (20 Jurong West St 93)
  • Woodlands Stadium (1 Woodlands St 13)
  • Bedok Stadium (1 Bedok North St 2)
  • Former Tampines Junior College (2 Tampines Ave 9)
  • Field in front of Ang Mo Kio Library (4300 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6)

Entry starts at 6pm. Admission is free and is on a first-come-first-served basis. More info here.

#4: CÉ LA VI

It’s an NDP party in the sky at the iconic rooftop bar perched atop Marina Bay Sands, which has some of the most stellar views of the fireworks display. On Aug 9, expect live face painting sessions, muah chee stations and a one-night-only National Day BBQ dinner menu available from 5pm to 9pm. Sharing surf and turf barbeque platters and smoky BBQ oysters with ponzu granita are on the special menu, though the restaurant and SkyBar’s regular menus are also available. However, a minimum spend of $168++ per pax and $300++ per pax is required for guests dining at the SkyBar and Club Lounge respectively. For NDP preview dates (Jul 23 and 30) from 6pm-9pm, there’s a minimum spend of $200++ at the Club Lounge.

Ce La Vi is at L57 Skypark, Marina Bay Sands Hotel Tower 3, 1 Bayfront Avenue. More info and reservations here.

#5: OverEasy Fullerton

Fancy front row seats and some American diner grub to go along with splendid views of the Marina Bay skyline and fireworks? Book an al fresco table at OverEasy Fullerton from 5pm to 11pm on Aug 9 (call or WhatsApp 9129-8484 to reserve) for the best seats in the house.

Sip on National Day specials such as Singapore Sling and Strawberry Negronis or feast on crowd faves Philly cheesteak sliders and baby back ribs at the casual diner with a breathtaking backdrop to boot.
OverEasy Fullerton is at 1 Fullerton Road 01-06 One Fullerton.

#6: Southbridge

The rooftop bar may not be the highest vantage point (it’s atop a row of shophouses at the end of Boat Quay), but this is a sweet spot if you want to be close to the action but away from the crowds.

Feast on oysters, sip on cocktails and kick back at the al fresco rooftop watering hole.
Southbridge is at 80 Boat Quay. Reservations and more info here.

#7: Singapore Sports Hub

If you didn’t manage to successfully ballot for NDP tickets this year, this may be the next best thing. The Singapore Sports Hub will be holding a live screening of the NDP telecast at OCBC Square and Stadium Roar as part of its National Day Fiesta on Aug 9 (5pm to 9pm).

The best bit? You’ll be able to catch the NDP fireworks — no, not just on the big screen — but along Stadium Riverside Walk. Attendees will receive an NDP pack and old school snacks as well. Admission is free.
More info here.

#8: Mandarin Oriental Singapore

Fancy a poolside dinner and fab views of fireworks? Make a dinner reservation at one of the outdoor poolside tables at the hotel’s modern Italian restaurant Dolce Vita.

Not only is it brimming with vacay vibes, it boasts front-row seats and spectacular views of the fireworks and the Marina Bay skyline. A pre-National Day Rehearsal set menu (from $128) is also available on Jul 23 and 30, while a five-course National Day dinner set menu ($178) is available on Aug 9.
Dolce Vita is at 5 Raffles Avenue. More info here.

#9: Smoke & Mirrors

The cocktail bar perched atop National Gallery Singapore isn't just the perfect vantage point for dazzling postcard-worthy panoramic views, it’s great for nostalgia-tinged National Day tipples too.

Zero in on boozy gin and tonic ice cocktail pops with fave local flavours like bandung and sour plum ($25++ each) while snacking spicy mackeral otah spring rolls ($16++) or chicken satay ($22++).

To reserve tables on Aug 9, full pre-payment is required — expect to shell out $120++ per person from 6-9pm and $60++ from 9pm. For the best views, chope and pay early as tables are assigned in the following order: Outdoor terrace (first row), outdoor terrace (second row) and finally, the indoor lounge. Smoke & Mirrors is at #06-01, National Gallery Singapore. To book, WhatsApp +65 9380 6313 ore-mail reserve [at] smokeandmirrors.com.sg.
