Tony Leung Ka-Fai Didn't See His Twin Daughters Until They Were 3 'Cos He Was Too Busy With Work

The 64-year-old actor had to take on more jobs to cope with the increase in his household expenses after the arrival of the twins.

Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Ka-Fai, 64, is one of the most celebrated actors of his generation.

But his success came at a price: his relationship with his twin daughters Nikkie and Chloe, who are now 30.

Three years is a really long time.

In a recent episode of Chinese variety show Memories Beyond Horizon, Tony shared that he worked non-stop for three years and that resulted in him not being able to see his daughters until they were three.

Why the hustle though?

The actor explained that his household expenses had increased exponentially after the arrival of Nikkie and Chloe, and he ended up having to take on up to three acting jobs in different productions every day to make more money.

He would spend eight hours on each set, and only take short naps in the car while waiting to go to the next assignment.

"I saw my daughters on the day they were born, but from zero to three years old, I never saw them once," he said.

Tony went on to say that even though he would call his family every day, it was only until he finally returned home that he realised his daughters did not recognise him.

He recalled how his daughters ran to hide behind their helper after seeing him. They also asked: "Why is this uncle's voice so familiar but we've never seen him before?"

Tony said it felt like someone had stabbed him in his heart.

"At that time, I could only swallow my tears," he said.

Luckily, Tony and his daughters eventually grew closer.

"Now they don't even leave the house and always want to be with me. They even said they want to follow me to work, but I chased them out! My two babies became my two inconveniences. They keep wanting to control me!" he joked.
