TungLok Customer Shamed For Walking Out Without Paying For ‘Non-Irish’ Duck Returns To Pay Bill

Guess he didn’t duck out of paying after all.

TungLok Group’s duck restaurant Duckland was in the limelight recently, after it posted on social media about a customer who had left the eatery without paying for his order of half a roast Irish duck.

The reason? He claimed that he was not served “an Irish duck”. Duckland, which is located at PLQ mall, specialises in dishes prepared with ducks from Ireland’s famed Silver Hill farm (you can read about why Irish ducks are such a big deal here).

Dismayed, the group refuted the man’s claim publicly. They also posted CCTV footage of the man’s March 23 visit, which showed him talking to two restaurant staff before leaving the premises with his dish uneaten.

According to Duckland, the customer merely “took a quick look” at the duck and raised his complaint. The restaurant also declares that it “consider(s) this an outright sabotage” of their business.

But today (March 25), TungLok Group updated on its social media that the customer had returned to pay his bill.

“He came back asking for his bill of the half duck which he had ordered (and left behind) on his previous visit,” the group says, adding that he was attended by the same restaurant manager who had served him earlier.

The duo “had a cordial conversation where, this time, the guest provided his feedback on the duck”. According to TungLok, the man revealed why he had concluded that his duck was not Irish: “He recalled having visited another branch of Duckland about 2 years ago and remembered the Irish duck to be fattier then. Hence he doubted that the duck he ordered this time was from Ireland.”

Silver Hill’s Irish ducks are known for their higher fat content, which makes them ideal for roasting as the fat melts and keeps the meat moist during the cooking process.

Duckland graciously offered to roast half a duck (Irish, we presume) for the customer to take away, though he declined as “he was in a rush to leave”. In its post, it also added a footnote that despite its threat to call the police, “no police report was made, even though we had initially contemplated doing so.”

TungLok Group also took the opportunity to inform its customers that they can request for Duckland to retain more fats for their ducks, as it’s usually served with less fat due to “regular feedback from our customers”. The group says: “If you allow us advance notice, we will try to prepare them to your liking.”
