TVB Actor Joel Chan Banned From Live Streaming On Chinese Platform After Speaking Only Cantonese During A Recent Live Stream Session

Like that also can?

Recently (Nov 2), TVB actor Joel Chan went live on Chinese social media platform Xiao Hong Shu to promote his new drama I've Got The Power.

However, after the session, the 46-year-old actor revealed in post that he's been banned from live streaming on the platform.

The reason? He was speaking Cantonese throughout the broadcast.

Joel's message to his fans

"Sorry everyone, as I spoke Cantonese throughout the entire live stream, I've been banned from live streaming for the next 12 hours. It's okay, everyone please continue to support I've Got The Power at 9.30pm. Tomorrow night at 10.30pm I'll live stream again, see you guys then!," wrote the actor.

The ban shocked netizens, with one asking: "Why must Cantonese be banned? Isn't this China?"

However, another netizen claimed that "all live streams conducted in dialect will be put on hold, because [the platforms] need time to audit [them]. Please don't intentionally try to stir the pot."

Meanwhile, Joel wrote a separate post (see below) to placate his fans. "Guys don't be angry, it's a small thing, every platform has their own rules, it's just that I didn't know, but now it's been clarified."
