TVB Actor Tony Hung Impressed By Amount Of Manpower In China, Says There Are “15 People Just To Move A Light”

The actor spent three months filming TVB drama Hongkonger in Beijing and the experience was eye-opening, to say the least.

Much has been said about the tough working conditions in TVB.

Going for days without sleep is commonplace and some artistes have also griped about the low salary and the inadequate welfare.

So it’s not surprising that TVB actor Tony Hung, 38, had quite an eye-opening experience shooting upcoming drama in Hongkonger in Beijing in China.

The drama, which was shot over three months in Beijing and Ningbo, also stars Ruco Chan, Joey Thye, and Jacky Cai.

During a recent wrap party for the drama in Hong Kong, Tony shared in an interview with HK01 that the best part of the experience was how the cast and crew had become close like family.

Another thing that stood out for him was how organised the crew was. And how much manpower they have.

"For example, there would be 15 people just to move a light. There were many cameras on set and behind each one, there would be 10 people. There could be more than 100 people just to shoot a simple cycling scene, and you wonder why there are so many people around? That is one of the differences," he said.

It takes a village to shoot a scene.

That said, everyone was very dedicated to their job and filming was more efficient as a result.

Tony recalled one scene where they were filming the back of a Chinese actor. Although the actor’s face was not being shot, he was so engrossed in the role that he was in tears. His dedication to his craft really impressed Tony.

He really missed his daughter though

Though Tony had an enjoyable time working in China, he could not wait to return home to his wife, model-actress Inez Leong, 34, and 10-month-old daughter Amber, when filming wrapped.

Tony shared previously that he was afraid that Amber would not remember him so he would video call home as often as he could. Well, his fears came true.

“She was surprised when I hugged her. I wanted to grab her hand, but she pulled away and started crying. When she cried, I cried in my heart too. No choice, so I spent the next two days by her side, sleeping with her, showering her, eating and playing with her. I changed her diapers and took her to the playground. I did everything. The past three months have been tough on my wife, so we made a deal that I will take over now and she can relax,” he said.
