TVB's Revenue Grew By 46% In First Half Of 2022, Thanks To Collaborations With China Like Music Show Infinity And Beyond

Is it any surprise Infinity And Beyond performer Hacken Lee reportedly gets a 6-figure fee to sing 3 songs at gigs now?

Hong Kong broadcaster TVB released its Announcement of 2022 Interim Results, where it was revealed that, as of Jun 30, the group's revenue grew by HK$572 mil (S$103mil) or 46% from HK$1,248 mil (S$225mil)  to HK$1,820 mil (S$328mil).

At the same time, the total number of people following TVB's official Weibo account as well as TVB artistes and influencers have exceeded 130 million, which is a 217% increase from last year.

And that apparently has a lot to do with TVB's recent efforts to  increase their collaborations with Mainland China

Infinity and Beyond - TVB’s very successful collaboration with China’s Mango TV

According to the announcement, TVB stated that "as a key conduit for Hong Kong content to Mainland China, TVB has played a high-profile role in this phenomenon.  Infinity and Beyond, a singing show we co-produced with Mango TV earlier this year featuring Hong Kong  artistes and music, was among China’s top variety shows in 2022."

TVB's production manager  of non-drama (variety arts),  He Xiaohui also shared previously that  Infinity and Beyond was the music variety show with the highest rating for TVB this year. The show is said to have reached 70% of the TV audience in Hong Kong.

The success of the show isn’t surprising. The strong cast of established singers like  Hacken Lee,   Miriam Yeung,  George Lam, Sally Yeh, and  Coco Lee made each episode an anticipated event. And while it raked in big bucks for the TV and these A-list singers, perhaps a more significant measure of success is how the show managed to propel budding singers like Mike Tsang and Gigi Yim into the big leagues.

According to Hong Kong media, Hacken’s popularity surged so much after he appeared on the show that he can command a “six-digit sum” just to perform three songs at a gig now. [Fun fact: Did you know that his performance fee onInfinity And Beyond  was reportedly the highest among his peers?]

Remember Mike Tsang, known for his signature afro and for ‘playing’ George Lam’s onscreen son in one performance? The singer went on to compete in another hit variety show Call Me By Fire 2 alongside stars like Alex To, Richie Jen and Raymond Lam.

Meanwhile, 2021 Stars Academy winner Gigi Yim was also said to have made a seven-figure sum in just four months after joining the cast of Infinity and Beyond, not bad for the 17-year-old singer whose dream is to “buy 10 houses in Hong Kong”.

Damn.
