$10 red grouper fish head soup

According to CT, he was “stunned” to find that his $10 bowl came with “very generous portion and very thick” chunks of “fresh and delicious” fish head that even included a prized fish eye. The red grouper was served in broth that was “sweet and flavourful” and loaded with ingredients like tomatoes, yam and tofu.

Photo: Facebook/ CT Ang Red grouper is considered a premium fish that’s pricier than other types of fish like batang, which is usually used for fish soup.

Interestingly, this particular hawker stall offers its customers a lot of options to customise their bowls. Other than white rice, you can also savour your fish soup with yellow noodles, thick bee hoon or kway teow, and your choice of veggies like bok choy, bitter gourd and mushrooms. Regulars of the stall have also been known to top up for fish roe. The fried fish soup looks good too

Or you can go for milky fish soup with generous chunks of fried fish.
