[Video] Everything You Need To Know About The Two Life-Size Transformer Statues At Gardens By The Bay In 30 Seconds

Wanna take a selfie with Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal?

The Transformers, those shape-shifting robots, have arrived on Earth — in Singapore, to be exact.

If you’re down at Gardens by the Bay for the Sakura Flora Display (and other activities) this weekend, why don’t you swing by Silver Garden to check out the two life-size statues from the upcoming movie Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

The ‘stars’ — the 6m-high Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, and the 4m high Optimus Primal, the leader of the Maximals, standing at 6 meters and 4 meters high, respectively — were unveiled on Thursday (Mar 16) and will be there till Apr 10.

Made from resin and fibreglass, these statues are part of the Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts Statues World Tour. Singapore is the first stop in the Asia leg, with Japan reportedly next.

These giant figures, which took more than 10 people to two cranes to assemble, are heavy, too: Optimus Prime weighs 4,018kg while Optimus Primal is 4,772kg.

Film distributor United International Pictures didn’t share how much they cost.

They come in peace (and in pieces): These things are heavy, so be careful around them. Unless you want to end up as a Mothership headline, don’t cross the barricade. You can scan the QR code and access social stickers, character information and video assets.

With the Marina Bay Sands Skypark as the backdrop, these sculptures are a sight to behold, especially at night.

When you’re done snapping pictures of them (what else can you do with them?), you have this irresistible urge to head on down to Transformers the Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle at Universal Studios Singapore. Maybe that’s just me.

Set in the 1990s, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts introduces a new breed of Transformers — the Maximals — to the existing battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. The Maximals are the descendants of the Autobots.

Directed by Steven Caple Jr (Creed II) and produced by Michael Bay, the movie stars Anthony Ramos (In the Heights) and Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah), as well as the voices of Pete Davidson and the newly-minted Oscar recipient Michelle Yeoh as Airazor, a Maximal that can change into a falcon-like appearance.

Here’s a quick look at the statues up close:
