Fans Waited 6 Hours Just To Wave At JJ Lin Across A Pond At Miracle Coffee Pop-Up Cafe Launch

The queue started at 5.30am today, but fans had to be content with briefly waving at their idol across a body of water as he attended a media preview ahead of the cafe’s official opening.

Fans started arriving as early as 5.30am for the launch of homegrown mandopop star JJ Lin’s much-anticipated Miracle Coffee pop-up cafe at Marina Bay Sands today (Sept 30). The crowd, largely comprising young girls, endured a six-hour wait to catch a glimpse of their idol as the cafe only opened officially at noon. JJ arrived slightly earlier for a private meet-and-greet session with the media and celeb guests like Fiona Xie, Jean Danker and fellow singer-turned-F&B entrepreneur Hong Junyang

His die-hard fans were fleetingly rewarded towards the end of his 45-minute sesh, when JJ waved at them from across the ArtScience Museum’s lily-covered pond, beside his pop-up cafe. “Thank you everyone! Cheers! Enjoy your coffee later,” shouted the singer to his cheering fans. The 200-strong crowd had to be satisfied with that roughly 40-second address from afar as the busy star left the cafe shortly after.

Miracle’s signature range of artisanal hand-dripped coffee includes drinks like Cappuccino ($6.50), Cold Brew ($9) and various flavoured Lattes ($6.50 to $7). It also serves a Singapore-exclusive cuppa called the Kaya Cloud ($9), an Americano-style coffee topped with a lemak kaya-infused creamy cap and shaved gula melaka bits. Miracle Coffee was first opened by JJ in Taipei in 2017, and there’s also an outlet in Shanghai. This MBS pop-up store, which runs till end December, comes in anticipation of a Miracle flagship cafe opening in the lobby of the ArtScience Museum next year.

As for whether fans will ever see the singer-songwriter popping by for his java fix, or even making a cuppa himself in-store, JJ teases: “As long as I have time. Ever since opening my first [cafe in Taiwan]... I’ll be thinking of where to go [on my free days], and I’ll just end up in my [cafe]. It’s like the best hangout spot. I wish I could make coffee and serve everyone – but I’d have to go through a [coffee-making] course [first].”

If you’re popping by on the weekends, note that guests must register for a queue slot via QR code, which triggers a phone text message informing you to join the physical queue or await your turn. You’re free to walk around until receiving the message, when you have to return and present your phone notification within 15 minutes to enter the line.

Miracle Coffee’s pop-up cafe runs Sept 30 noon – 6.30pm & Oct 1 to Dec 29 10am – 6.30pm
