Zoe Tay Almost Loses $500,000 Cuff After Winning Best Actress At The 2019 Star Awards

It’s Zoe Tay’s third Best Actress win at tonight’s Star Awards, and no one is more surprised than the star herself. In fact, she’s so shaken up by the win, she almost lost her $500,000 cuff when she accidentally dropped it on the floor while receiving a congratulatory hug from Pan Lingling.

“Oh my God, this is $500,000!” She gasped. Fortunately for her, 8days.sg picked it up and handed it over to her security guard, who has been following her around the entire evening to guard her bling.

Amid the chaos backstage right after the Star Awards 2019, we managed to grab Ah Jie for a short chat on her win. She beat Fann Wong, Joanne Peh, Rebecca Lim and Carrie Wong to the trophy for her role as a devoted housewife in A Million Dollar Dream. Zoe last won the award in 2017, for her role as a Nurse Manager in You Can Be An Angel 2, the same year BFF and this year’s Best Actor Chen Hanwei also bagged the same award.

8 DAYS: On stage, you mentioned that your “fee is very high”.
ZOE TAY: Aiyah, they always complain that they can’t cast me, because my fee is very high! (Laughs) So I told them, don't worry about the budget, just cast me first! (Laughs)

How about lowering your fee?
(Laughs) You have to talk to my manager!​​​​​​​

Now all of Singapore knows you’re “expensive, but an established brand” hence, worth every penny?
It’s just a statement. Nothing lah! (Laughs) I really enjoy my job! I’ve been here for the past few decades, and I’m very grateful to have many opportunities to take up different roles.

You said you were sated after winning Best Actress. Are you hungry for food now?
No, no, I am very full now. (Laughs) I have a lot of food at home. Actually, one week before this, I already started thinking about what to eat after the awards. (Laughs) We have to be on diet for the dress lah, so it’s so tough! I needed to make sure I slimmed down before I put on this beautiful dress!

You also mentioned that your “heart was racing, just like falling in love”. Are you saying that you really love awards?
Yes, of course! Holding this trophy is like courtship! (Laughs)
