SINGAPORE — Another cat was found dead in Yishun this morning (Jan 19), said a cat interest group in the neighbourhood.

Appealing for witnesses and information, the Facebook post by Yishun 326 Tabby Cat at 10.50am said a grey cat was found "bloodied" and in a drain near Block 361, Yishun Ring Road. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) confirmed that it had received news of the incident and informed the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) immediately.

SPCA said the AVA would be taking the lead in the investigation, and it has offered its assistance. When contacted, an AVA spokesperson said the AVA is investigating the case.

Over the last three months, at least 20 cats have been found abused or dead in Yishun.

Earlier today, the 40-year-old man suspected of killing a cat in Yishun last October  was back in court. He was granted bail. The man, Lee Wai Leong, had previously been remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for psychiatric assessment for three weeks, following suspicions that he had allegedly hurled a cat from the 13th floor of a Housing and Development Board flat on Oct 30 last year.

Lee was charged on Dec 29 last year. A day after he was charged, another cat was found dead, with blood streaming out of its ears and mouth.
