SINGAPORE — The first mobile data plans for senior citizens, aimed at SingTel customers aged 55 and above, was announced by SingTel today (March 11).

The new plans offer a 20 per cent discount off the regular monthly subscription of SingTel’s SuperLite and Lite plans. Eligible existing customers can enjoy the discounted rate when they renew their contract.

The Seniors SuperLite plan will cost S$22.32 a month after discount and comes with 100MB of data, and the Senior Lite plan will cost S$31.92 after discount and comes with 2GB of data. Both plans offer 4G connectivity, and subscribers to the Senior Lite plan can get either a Nuokia Lumia 925 or Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 LTE smartphone for free.

Subscribers to the Seniors SuperLite plan can purchase the Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 LTE smartphone for S$48, or get the Nokia Lumia 925 for free.

“We hope that our new plans will encourage more seniors to adopt the latest mobile technologies and discover the benefits of the digital world,” said Mr Johan Buse, SingTel’s Vice President of Consumer Marketing.

SingTel will also be offering free clinics to help senior citizens with understanding how their smartphones and data plans work. The clinics will be done in collaboration with NTUC U Live.

“Based on their feedback, we have found that many seniors are worried about the costs of data plans and uncertain about how they will be charged for usage,” said Mr Buse. “To address these concerns, we will offer free clinics in collaboration with NTUC U Live to help them understand how our data plans work and how to check their usage.”

StarHub’s promotion for senior citizens, Active Stars, is a prepaid plan that offers 25 per cent extra credits, free IDD calls to 19 destinations and 10MB of free local data. Additional data comes at a separate cost.
