Rethink the great outdoors with unique camping and glamping experiences at two Sunway Theme Parks across the Causeway.

It can be hard to please everyone when planning a family vacation. Half of the tribe wants to relive their tween years with a rustic camping trip, outdoor barbecues and perhaps a chance to see some wildlife. The other half is clamouring for an adrenaline-packed jaunt with stomach-churning roller-coaster rides and #YOLO wefies.

Now, you can have the best of both worlds with the re-opening of the Singapore-Malaysia land border. Two of Malaysia’s largest theme parks – Sunway Lagoon in Sunway City, Kuala Lumpur, and Sunway Lost World Of Tambun in Ipoh – have launched staycation packages that allow visitors to stay past opening hours and spend the night in a tent or even on a floating villa under star-drenched skies.

The two theme parks are among South-east Asia’s most renowned. Sunway Lagoon celebrates its 30th anniversary next year while Sunway Lost World Of Tambun has been around for nearly two decades, said Mr Calvin Ho, executive director of Sunway Theme Parks.

“We are popular among Singaporeans because they have discovered the ideal spot for feasting, shopping and playing at Sunway Theme Parks,” he said. “As the largest and longest-operating theme park operator in our country, we are thrilled to welcome back families and fans from our neighbouring countries and showcase the best of Malaysian hospitality.”

LET’S GO OUTSIDE

When night falls, make your way from the theme park to the Explorer’s Campsite and relax by the campfire.

The Camp Out! package at Sunway Lagoon is a veritable upgrade from your usual no-frills camping trip. It includes a one-day admission ticket to the theme park (which spans more than 32 hectares), a one-night stay at the Explorer Campsite, a barbecue dinner and breakfast.

During the day, your entry pass to Sunway Lagoon lets you catch the waves at Surf Beach, one of the world’s biggest surf pools, and plummet into Vuvuzela, among the world’s largest vortex rides. If you prefer, you can get up close and personal with more than 150 species of animals at the wildlife park, which is home to white tigers, miniature horses, panthers and sun bears.

After the theme park closes its gates at 6pm, make your way to the Explorer’s Campsite at the spectacular Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon. Surrounded by lush rainforest and cascading waterfalls, this is where 10 air-conditioned tents with a choice of single or twin beds await.

A barbecue feast awaits at dinnertime, complete with nasi lemak pizza and nachos.

Work up an appetite at the private dipping pool before your BBQ feast of grilled meats and seafood. Don’t fret if you are no MasterChef – the food will be prepared by a professional chef; all you need to do is barbecue it on the individual grill provided with each tent.

Then retreat to your comfortable tent and drift off into slumberland. When day breaks, wake up to a scrumptious breakfast waiting for you.

GLAMPING IT UP

Comfortable and spacious, each glamping tent at Sunway Lost World Of Tambun is equipped with handy amenities.

If you love the idea of camping overnight in a theme park but prefer your stay a touch more luxe, opt for the Glamping at Sunway Lost World Of Tambun package. It includes an entrance pass to the Lost World Of Tambun and the Lost World Hot Springs & Night Park, plus a complimentary buffet breakfast.

After checking in, explore the massive wonderland and its 10 parks. Water babies can grab their swimsuits and make a splash at the Lost World Water Park. Hit the waves at Jungle Wave Bay, Malaysia’s biggest wave pool, or float breezily along Adventure River in an oversized rubber tube while taking in the sights of awe-inspiring 400-million-year-old limestone hills.

Freshen up before dinner at your home for the night, one of six new glamping canvas tents that can each fit up to five people. These are equipped with creature comforts such as power sockets (because you’d want to charge your phone and feed your ’gram), an electric fan, towels and toiletries.

An overnight stay at a new Malayana Floating Villa is an elegant add-on to your glamping experience.

For an even more exclusive stay, consider the new Malayana Floating Villas that promise a picturesque wake-up call at sunrise. Sitting prettily on Boga Lake, the three villas are inspired by the Malayana Story at The Lost World Of Tambun and named after its key characters – Natia, Haku and Chief. Each villa brings a little more comfort to the mix, with air-conditioning, a private bathroom and free Wi-Fi.

There’s more to explore when night falls. Your twilight adventure continues in the Luminous Forest, filled with mystical glowing flora and fauna, and illuminated attractions like the Bridge of Luminosa. For a more laidback experience, dip into the natural mineral hot springs pools or relax with a traditional Malay urut (massage) at Crystal Spa.

After a hearty breakfast, it’s time to investigate the surrounding areas of the park. Visit Lost World Tin Valley, where you can experience dulang washing – the art of using a dulang (a shallow wooden pan) to extract tin from the earth and sand. Or, catch trained rangers feed majestic Siberian tigers at Lost World Tiger Valley.

Too much to do and too little time? Well, there’s always the September school break.

Get away from it all and reconnect with nature – book your Camp Out! At Sunway Lagoon and the Glamping at Sunway Lost World Of Tambun packages now.
