No disrespect to the waffles, pancakes and avocado toasts of the world, but when it comes to comfort food, Southeast Asian flavours deliver an experience that is both distinct and homely.

To celebrate Singapore’s 56th National Day, Subway Singapore has added two locally curated flavours to its menu – the Rendang Sub and Pandan Cookie. What’s more, you get to contribute to the country’s vaccination effort with every purchase.

RAVENOUS FOR RENDANG

Complex and punchy, rendang is an aromatic curry that is very popular in the Southeast Asian region. Hailing from the Indonesian archipelago, rendang’s profile – with its deep, earthy flavours – is immediately identifiable and makes a satisfying main dish when cooked with meat. Even celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has tried his hand at making the dish.

Try the Rendang Sub and Pandan Cookie at any Subway outlet.

The Rendang Sub from Subway Singapore pays homage to the classic recipe. The fruit of a vigorous process that spanned one and half years, the sub hits all the right spice notes. Available in two protein choices of chicken or beef, the Rendang Sub delivers an irresistible blend of coconut milk and spice mixture, with just the right amount of chili, onion, turmeric, ginger, tamarind and lemongrass.

Balancing out the savoury profile is the recommended pairing of old English Cheddar cheese, mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumber, mixed pepper and onions. But as with all Subway sandwiches, you’re welcome to customise the Rendang Sub with your own unique mix of toppings.

A PANDAN FINISH FOR THE WIN

For a local twist to a sweet finish, end your meal at Subway with the Pandan Cookie.

Inspired by the naturally sweet profile and enticing aroma of the humble pandan plant, Subway Singapore’s latest cookie recipe features ingredients such as coconut flakes, desiccated coconut, pandan flavouring, vanilla and almond. Each cookie is freshly baked at Subway restaurants.

CELEBRATING ALL THAT IS HOME

As a nod to Singapore and those who call it home, Subway Singapore saw it fitting to roll out the two special-edition menu items to celebrate the nation’s birthday. Aug 9 also marks another milestone: The country is primed to reach its goal of vaccinating at least two-thirds of the population by that date.

As such, for every Rendang Sub purchased, Subway Singapore will match that (up to 10,000 subs) to donate to vaccination centres islandwide in appreciation of healthcare workers, whose efforts have helped us unlock this achievement. To cater to healthcare workers with different dietary preferences, the 10,000 donated subs include the latest Rendang Sub and also classic mainstays such as Tuna, Veggie Delight and Roasted Chicken Breast.

Subway Singapore fans have more to cheer about, too. Simply share the rousing Rendang Nation Anthem on Facebook, a musical introduction of the Rendang Sub featuring Singapore artistes Haneri (Daphne Khoo) and Shakthiyas, and stand a chance to win S$100 worth of Subway vouchers.

Who knows, you might start singing along to the catchy ditty after polishing up the juicy Rendang Sub and delectable Pandan Cookie.

Celebrate National Day with a taste of home. Order the Rendang Sub and Pandan Cookie at any Subway outlet from July 21 to Sept 28.
