Respecting and engaging
with all perspectives.

How to engage in civic conversations

Getting to the
root of racism
Does a person’s age play a part in your level of comfort in working/ interacting with them?
Instead of focusing so much on our differences, we should focus on our similarities as human beings and our shared, universal human values.
Are stereotypes a divisive or uniting force in Singapore's society?
Are foreigners diluting or enriching the Singaporean identity and culture?
Are Singaporeans becoming more negative in the way they view foreigners?

Is the generational
gap real?
Do employers give Singaporeans fair opportunities in hiring and promotion?
It is far better to understand generational change broadly as a process that is shaped by shared historical context, rather than stereotypes based on arbitrary selected ranges of birth years.

Bridging the
foreigner-local divide
Do you feel that you have inherent biases against other races?
How often do you agree with parents on issues happening in the world (eg climate change, discrimination etc…)
56 years after independence, race remains an urgent and sensitive issue for us
