Truth be told, muscles were popping up everywhere on the silver screen thanks to protagonist Kellan Lutz who plays the titular lead character.

However, even with the model-actor’s chiselled bod and charming gaze, The Legend of Hercules needs to beef up elsewhere.

The plot itself disappoints, focusing on the protagonists’ love story with Hebe and peppering it with a few scenes from some well-known adventures from the myth. Which could be all well and good, except that there’s a lack of chemistry between Lutz and Hebe’s Gaia Weiss, effectively turning it into a rather emotionless tale filled with meaningless, glorified battles.

Still, the movie can definitely satisfy action junkies, with its realistically choreographed fight scenes against some stunning backdrops in Bulgaria (particularly in scenes where Hercules battles in grand gladiator style).

(PG13, 100 mins)
