SINGAPORE — A supergroup with Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift? “It’s been discussed,” said the British singer prior to his concert in Singapore on March 11. “I did actually discuss it with Taylor, but nothing’s really happened,” the 24-year-old said before taking the stage at the Star Performing Arts Centre.

What about his other famous friends, One Direction, who played to a packed crowd of almost 30,000 earlier this week. joining in on backing vocals? “I don’t think that would work out,” he said, adding: “I don’t know if they’ll still be together by then.

“Boybands usually go off and do their own things eventually. Every boyband at some point wants to do their own thing,” Sheeran teased further.

Whether there’s trouble in boyband paradise or not, Sheeran revealed that he texted One Direction’s Harry Styles before coming to the Republic. “I wanted to check if we were going to be in Singapore at the same time.”

The Brit Award winner and Grammy nominee, who counts Pharrell Williams and Swift as collaborators, said he’s not looking forward to planning any more collaborations at the moment. “I tend not to plan (them), they tend to kind of fall on my lap at the right time. I find that if you have to ask someone to do a song, they probably won’t do it.”

He continued: “But if they come to you and ask, it will happen. You just have to be patient with it.”
