Popular radio station Class 95FM revamps with a new look

SINGAPORE — Change, as United States President Barack Obama once said, will not come if we wait for some other person, or if we wait for some other time. In a way, that could explain why MediaCorp radio station Class 95FM has decided to make some changes: Earlier this week, it unveiled its new logo and station colours. “Class 95 has morphed over the years and this new logo celebrates the new and spirited attitude of the station,” said Margaret Lim, the station’s assistant programme director. “It’s a reflection of Class 95 as fun, playful and at the same time, confident and modern.”

The logo change is just the latest in a series of changes that the radio station has undertaken since March. “We’ve had some changes to our on-air team with The Muttons moving over (from 987FM) and flying the flag high as Singapore’s No 1 English morning show,” said Lim. “Their brand of humour and pulse on local watercooler topics have won them fans.”

While popular DJs Yasminne Cheng and Jean Danker continue to entertain and grow their fan base hosting Lunch Break and Cartunes, respectively, more personnel changes were afoot: Gold 90.5FM DJ Tim Oh also made the switch to Class 95 as “our new man to midnight” on the 8pm to midnight slot. More recently, the radio station added new face Simone Heng to its roster. She hosts the post-lunch timeslot on weekdays from 2pm to 5pm.

“(She’s a) Singapore girl made good in Dubai, where she helmed the No 1 lunch-time show for five years and then moved to Perth where she again helmed a No 1 afternoon show for more than a year,” said Lim. “She brings such a spritely charm to the afternoon.”

“I am thrilled to be part of Class 95, a brand that’s close to the heart of so many Singaporeans, including me,” said Heng. “I love that I can share my love of food, entertainment and fashion with listeners and hopefully bring a little oomph and lots of cheer to their afternoons.”

Throughout the week, the station gave away exclusive notebooks bearing the new logo at various parts of the island and Lim said there are more such activities being planned. “We want our listeners to have fun with the new logo so we’re inviting them to create their own merchandise with our logo, snap a picture with it and hashtag #BestInClass95 for a chance to win a 10-course private dinner with our DJs,” said Lim. “We’ve got some pretty cool ideas from them already. We love our new logo and we want our listeners to have fun with it too.”
