CHINGAY PARADE. Asia’s largest street performance and float parade returns this year to celebrate the legacy of Singapore’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. Chingay 2016 will feature performances by 800 youths dressed in lighted costumes, aerial acts, and creative dragon dance displays that include Firecrackers & Fire Dragons, LED-lit Dragons, Straw Fire Dragons and the electrifying Flying Dragon from China. In addition, 3,000 performers will light up Singapore’s skyline with bulb-shaped Sky Lanterns, before the festivities end with a fireworks display. Chingay 2016 will be held today at 8pm (pre-parade at 7pm), at the F1 Pit Building (next to the Singapore Flyer). Tickets from S$28.50 available at SISTIC. GOD OF CARNAGE.Hong Kong’s Dionysus Contemporary Theatre brings its Cantonese adaptation of French playwright Yasmina Reza’s award-winning play God Of Carnage as part of The Esplanade’s Huayi — Chinese Festival Of Arts. It stars Golden Horse winner Anthony Wong and Louisa So. The play runs today and tomorrow at the Esplanade Theatre. Tickets from S$38 at SISTIC.
THE LOCAL PEOPLE HUART MARKET. Splash your red packet money on the 40 art, food and retail stalls at the Local People HUART Market, which will be held today, from 3pm to 10pm, at Alleyway @ Pagoda Street, Chinatown. The event will also screen Already Famous and 3 Peas In A Pod by Michelle Chong’s Huat Films.
WHITE MAGIC SUNSETS. Headed by Argentinian DJ and Producer Adrian Giordano, this sundown event from Bali will be held at Singapore’s Tanjong Beach Club tomorrow from 2pm onwards, with the special appearance of Downtown Party Network. THE WONDERS OF LIFE. Singaporean singer-songwriter Wong Hong Mok presents a free three-part concert alongside his music partners and students today at 7.30pm, 8.45pm and 10pm at the Esplanade’s Outdoor Theatre.
SECOND COMING. Singaporean artist Eugene Soh returns with his latest photographic exhibition, which presents his interpretation of the prophetic reappearance of Jesus within the context of contemporary Singapore. The exhibition runs until March 13 at Chan Hampe Galleries at the Raffles Hotel Arcade.
RE/PLAY DANCE EDIT. Tonight’s the final night to catch Theatreworks’s re-make of Japanese theatre marker Junnosuke Tada’s 2011 show Re/Play, which explores the intent and meaning of reproduction through the repetition of physical movement. K-LIVE SENTOSA K-POP HOLOGRAM THEATRE. Korean band GOT7 will be in town on Feb 23 to launch K-Live Sentosa, the first Korean pop hologram concert attraction outside of Korea. Tickets to the launch party are sold out, but you can purchase tickets to see the attraction’s 40-minute hologram concert from S$39 from SISTIC.
GARDENERS’ DAY OUT. The National Parks’ signature event comprises a gardeners’ market, food Bazaar, free talks and demonstrations, free garden tours of HortParks and kids’ activities like storytelling and handicrafts. It’s free to the public, and will be held today, from 9am to 5pm, at HortPark.
GINGAPURA. A Brazilian carnival party held at Muzium Cafe at Bali Lane today, starting at 4pm, promises great Brazilian music that will keep attendees moving all night. Masks and costumes encouraged and expected, but not compulsory.
