Leon’s beast mode unlocked
If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if the Volkswagen Group’s performance boffins breathed their fiery touch onto a relatively sedate Spanish hatch, the answer can be found here. The Seat Leon Cupra 290 is the brand’s take on hot-hatchery that raids Volkwagen’s performance parts bin to create a car that brings tears of joy to dad-mobile drivers the world over.
At the heart of the front-wheel-drive Leon Cupra is a 290ps (286hp) dual-injection TSI engine producing 350Nm of torque. It is similar to the engine used in other hot hatches in the group like the Volkswagen Golf R, and helps the Leon Cupra complete the 0-100kmh sprint in 5.7s.
Seat claims fuel-consumption figures of 6.6l/100km and CO2 emissions of 154g/km. This puts the Leon Cupra in the neutral CEVS (Carbon Emissions-Based Vehicle Scheme) banding, which means owners will not have to pay a CEVS surcharge. The Leon Cupra will cost S$165,500 (without sunroof) and S$170,500 (with sunroof). All prices include COE. SCOTT MARSH
