A couple-perfect staycay

SINGAPORE — A staycation is probably the best way for an overworked and stressed out couple to unwind and spend some much-needed time together.

SINGAPORE — A staycation is probably the best way for an overworked and stressed out couple to unwind and spend some much-needed time together.

The home away from home where the room is sleek and plush, and everything gets magically done is a great respite from one’s usual setting.

Oasia Hotel Downtown — admittedly not in a particularly romantic location being smack in the Central Business District — can be just that spot for rejuvenation if you avoid making eye contact with its surroundings and whizz right through its main doors.

With its bright red bullet-shaped exterior shooting up to the sky, the hotel stands out quite literally. It also has a more boutique feel, and boasts an urban jungle theme with lush creepers over its exterior and influences of wood and copper.

For the millennial couple looking for tranquillity and peace, the space, which renowned Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola has had a hand in designing, strikes just the right balance between being hipster, and stylish.

True to its theme of au naturel, there are plenty of breezy open spaces dotted throughout its premises such as the Sky Terrace on Level 12, which make for lovely places for you and your partner to catch up on long conversations and each other’s company. There is also a large piece of open green space there that is suitable for quiet picnics or early morning/evening couple yoga sessions.

If you upgrade to the Club Room (which we highly recommend), you get access to their Club Floor on the 21st floor, which allows you use of its oh-so-Instagrammable infinity pool and a phenomenal view of the iconic Pinnacle @ Duxton and the shop houses along Tanjong Pagar Road. Inviting cabanas and cushioned lounge chairs surround the reception area (reserved solely for Club guests) and the pool, so it is another great spot to just chill out. You could, of course, swim, but don’t say we didn’t warn you — the water is teeth-chatteringly cold.

Even without the upgrade, there are two rooftop pools that are open to all guests on Level 27. It’s a colourful and quirky space, with brick walls and vibrantly-hued hanging egg chairs. The pool is small though, and the view is, well, not much to speak of as your sight is blocked by the massive vertical garden.

For a final nightcap before adjourning to your room, pop by Cin Cin. It is a sexy space made for flirting with its sleek interiors and teal seats that are a throwback to the 1960s secret-agent phenomenon. The gin-centric bar serves a wide selection of gin-infused drinks, and you can ask any of the spiffy bartenders for a recommendation.

The best thing about drinking all night here with your partner is retiring immediately to your room upstairs. Also designed by Urquiola, the copper and wood elements play off each other nicely. But who cares about the decor when the beds are this big, soft and luxurious to bliss out together on? Need we say more? JOY FANG
