Food lovers gather for a good cause

SINGAPORE — Helping others for a good cause gets better when good food is involved. Happening this Saturday (Nov 5) at Culinaryon (#04-63 One Raffles Place Tower 2), Tea For A Cause (TFAC) is a fundraising event that will bring together a team of about 25 volunteer chefs from all walks of life, from celebrity chefs to home cooks in support of CampVision — a non-profit organization that reaches out to youths-at-risk.

The fun-filled charity cook-out and bazaar will also see Mediacorp’s Eat List Star finalists in a mystery box cooking challenge. Steven Snowdon, Tim Ong and Sharon Mah will work in teams of three, each comprising two CampVision kids, and have only 45 minutes to whip up an appetiser and a main dish.

Guests will also have a chance to pick up a few cooking tips from chefs Jenna White from Brettschneider’s Baking & Cooking School and Han Liguang, chef-owner of restaurant Labyrinth who will be conducting a culinary demo.

Of course, there will be lots to eat too, about 30 dishes from seven themed stations that include French, Hawker Fusion, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Peranakan. Chef Mermilliod of Bar-A-Thyme, for example, will be serving a dish of braised beef cheeks in red wine, while Meat Collective is sponsoring the ingredients for the French dish of stuffed tomatoes a la Provence, the roast leg of lamb from the Italian station, and the ox tongue curry from the Japanese station. There’ll also ayam lemak cili padi from Hjh Maimunah Restaurant if you crave something spicier.

Proving that a love for food and good deeds go hand in hand, 300 tickets have already been sold. Priced at S$70 each (inclusive of S$70 worth of food vouchers), tickets are available at http://droolsg.com/tfac/ticket-sales/ or at the door. All proceeds will be donated to CampVision.
