Give a gift of smile this Mother’s Day

Here’s a Mothers’ Day gift that will do more than put a smile on mum’s face. From May 4 to 10, The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore will be selling specialty crafted Valrhona chocolate and banana cakes — to give children with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities a reason to smile again. These cakes are available to order online (http://smileasiaweek.org) and at the retail kiosk in the hotel lobby (10am to 8pm daily). Each 500g cake costs S$35 and all proceeds will go directly to The Smile Mission. Last year’s tally of 13,000 cakes raised a total sum of US$400,000 (S$533,000) for the charity, and this year’s Smile Asia Week will be celebrated across 21 Ritz-Carlton hotels in the Asia-Pacific. In addition, the hotel, in partnership with French art organisation La Fabrique Du Sourire, will play host to The Smile Factory in the lobby the same week (11am to 8pm daily), and visitors can participate in interactive live smile painting sessions with French artist Sophie Raynaud (May 7 to 10 only). Limited-edition Smile lithographs designed for Smile Asia Week 2015 will also be on sale, with part of the proceeds going to The Smile Mission. DON MENDOZA
