Barbie launches shoe collection - for real people
SINGAPORE — We know that Barbie loves her fashion, but now fans of the world’s most famous female doll can actually try on some of them. Well, her shoes, anyway.

SINGAPORE — We know that Barbie loves her fashion, but now fans of the world’s most famous female doll can actually try on some of them. Well, her shoes, anyway.
To celebrate Barbie wearing flat shoes for the very first time (thanks to a new articulated ankle feature on the doll) Barbie has collaborated with British young footwear talent Sophia Webster to come up with a coordinated collection of women’s and children’s shoes.
Entitled Barbie x Sophia Webster, it is based on Webster’s favourite styles re-imagined exclusively for Barbie; with six of them for adults — comprising two designs for sneakers, one for flat sandals, and three for high heels, including Sophia Webster’s inimitable Chiara sandals with their signature butterfly-adorned stiletto heels; as well as three children’s versions, each derivative of their adult counterpart.
“Creating a shoe collection for Barbie has always been my dream project, but getting to be a part of her embracing flats for the first time made it extra exciting, and deeply personal,” said Webster. “I love that this concept strikes a balance between dreams and reality — the idea of getting Barbie in some hi-tops and setting her loose ... instantly appealed.”
This collaboration is a continuation of the Barbie Fashionista campaign, which “celebrates diversity and individual style” with 23 new dolls, featuring 14 different facial sculpts, eight skin tones, 18 eye colours, 22 hair styles and 23 hair colours, as well as fashions inspired by global fashion and beauty trends. A promotional film by Sharna Osborne (featuring hot new singer Kali Uchis) has also been made and yes, there is a doll for this collaboration, too, with Webster dressing a limited-edition Barbie housed in a specially designed box. The Barbie x Sophia Webster doll wears a pair of ‘Riko’ hi-top glitter sneakers, behind which other miniature-sized style options are displayed.
Kimberly Culmone, vice-president of Barbie Global Creative, said of the collaboration: “We are not only delighted to see Barbie’s wardrobe expand in such a delectable fashion, but thankful to have Sophia Webster convey our continuing message of diversity, both with the doll she has chosen to dress and within the film with Kali Uchis.”
The Barbie x Sophia Webster collection will be launched in Singapore on Sept 4 at the On Pedder store at Takashimaya Shopping Centre.
