SINGAPORE — Travellers flying between Singapore and Fiji can soon skip the transfers in Australia or New Zealand. The introduction of 10-hour direct flights from April 5 next year will shave at least three hours from the journey.
Fiji Airways will operate a twice-weekly service between Nadi and Singapore, using a 273-seat Airbus A330 aircraft in a two-class configuration, Changi Airport announced today (Nov 6).
This new service will also allow connections from Singapore to other Pacific Islands such as Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu through Fiji Airways’ regional network.
The direct flights are expected to open opportunities for tourism as well as in trade of perishable items such as seafood and flowers.
Separately, Australian carrier Qantas today announced additional flights between Singapore and Perth on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The change means it will now fly the route daily, up from five days a week previously. The additional services begin next month.
