PETALING JAYA — Claiming victory before the official results are announced, Malaysia's opposition leader Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said on Wednesday (May 9) night that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) pact has won at least 112 seats, enough to form a Parliamentary majority and the next government.

Speaking to the media at a press conference, the former Prime Minister and PH chairman said the Opposition had won, unofficially, six key states - Penang, Selangor, Malacca, Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Kedah.

He added: "It would seem that we have practically achieved that figure of 112 (seats). And the figure for (ruling Barisan Nasional coalition) is very much less than that. There's no way they can catch up...The whole of peninsula is won by PH."

Dr Mahathir also accused the Election Commission (EC) of withholding the official results, arguing that the Barisan Nasional (BN) could no longer catch up in the polls.

"This isn't fake news. You can't take me to court for fake news," said the 92-year-old.

He added: "They are left far behind. The likelihood is that they would not be forming the government. We believe certain meetings are being held. And we worry what's the intention of these meetings.

"We hope and pray that the people respect law and order. This is very serious."

The official results of Malaysia's 14th General Election are not due for a few more hours.

Dr Mahathir urged the EC to do "what's right according to the constitution", adding: "I would like to see the King after what's happened but the question is whether he would like to see me. Without releasing the results, I can't go to see the King.

"The Election Commission is not doing their duty and is holding back the result."
