SINGAPORE — A 59-year-old man was on Monday (July 22) sentenced to 20 months’ jail for molesting two teenage boys and taking photos of the genitals of one of the victims when the teens were drunk in his home.

The Singaporean man, Yusof Aboo Bakar, pleaded guilty to two counts of outrage of modesty and one of voyeurism. Four other charges were also taken into consideration in sentencing.

The victims cannot be named under a court order to protect their identity.

According to court documents, Yusof, who was unemployed at the time of the incident on March 4 this year, saw the two victims, aged 16 and 15, hanging around the void deck of a public housing block.

He approached them and introduced himself as a friend of the older teen’s father. The teen also recognised Yusof as someone he had seen in the neighbourhood.

After chatting with them, Yusof invited the victims to his house.

Yusof was living with a housemate, but the latter was not around at that time as he was working the night shift.

At the house, Yusof drank three cans of beer, while the victims each drank two cans that the man served them. The teenagers became intoxicated and drowsy.

Yusof then intentionally touched the 15-year-old boy all over his body, including the private parts, against the victim’s protests, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Maximilian Chew said in court documents.

“As the (younger) victim was experiencing a bad headache and dizziness, he could not move away. Both the victims eventually passed out in the accused’s bedroom,” the prosecutor added.

Sometime in the morning, the victims woke up and left Yusof’s house.

However, the older teenager discovered that his debit card and some cash were missing, and suspected that he had left them in Yusof’s house.

The 16-year-old returned to the house at about 10.50pm, telling Yusof that he might have left his belongings in the house. After being unable to find the items, the man and the teenager watched television together.

Yusof again served alcohol to the teen, who later got drunk.

While the teen was intoxicated, Yusof molested him. The man later pulled down the victim’s shorts and took photos of the teen’s genital area while he was still asleep.

“He stated that he took the photographs for ‘(his) own pleasure’,” DPP Chew said.

The older victim lodged a police report on March 7, which led to Yusof’s arrest.

Outrage of modesty carries a maximum sentence of three years in jail or a fine or caning, or any combination of such punishments.

Anyone found guilty of voyeurism can be jailed for up to three years, fined, caned, or be given a combination of such punishments.

As Yusof is above the age of 50, he cannot be caned by law.
