A reunion they will forever treasure

Fann and I are happy that we’ll be able to celebrate ZedZed’s first Chinese New Year with him — it just so happens that we don’t have any projects scheduled then. We’ll be spending the holidays in my hometown in Malacca. To have ZedZed there for the first time feels really special.

I want my son to know the importance of family. No matter how busy he may be in the future, he should return home to celebrate the Chinese New Year with his loved ones.

ZedZed can also expect a special hong bao from us — one containing an auspicious amount of money!

As a child, I loved the spring festival. However, the Chinese New Year seemed to have lost some of its lustre as I grew older — somehow, it felt less joyous.

But things will be different this year. I feel so blessed to be celebrating the occasion with Aden and Andie. Aden has brought us so much happiness — he’s better than a big hong bao! And we’re his biggest red packet! I’ve also started teaching Aden how to make the Gong Xi Gong Xi gesture.

I haven’t found suitable clothes for Aden to go visiting in. What I’ve seen in stores are too thick and he’s uncomfortable in the heat. Those which fit the bill are unfortunately all baby apparel for girls. Maybe I could get some of those for Aden!

The Chinese believe that a newborn will bring luck. Because my wife and I have just welcomed a new addition to our family, I believe I stand a higher chance of striking it rich in the TOTO Chinese New Year Hong Bao draw!

It has been a hectic period for myself and my wife. She completes her confinement period just before the Chinese New Year, and until then, we have many festive preparations to make, like shopping for new clothes and decorating the house.

Still, when I look at my sons’ innocent faces, I feel that they are worth all my effort. Growing up, I enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year. I want my children to experience the same joy I felt.

My sons will not only receive a hong bao each from us, but also a whole lot of love and care.
