SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 175 new cases of Covid-19, including three that are imported and one that is in the community. The remaining 171 are migrant workers staying in dormitories.

In a press release on Sunday (Aug 9), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the three imported cases include one Singaporean and two work pass holders.

The three had arrived from India on July 25 and 26, MOH said.

They had all been placed on a 14-day stay-home notice at dedicated facilities and tested positive while serving their notices.

The one infection in the community is a 57-year-old Singaporean woman with no known links to past cases or clusters.

She tested positive for Covid-19 after she sought medical treatment for prolonged acute respiratory infection symptoms.

MOH said that investigations are ongoing for her case.

“In the meantime, all the identified close contacts of the cases have been isolated and placed on quarantine, and will be tested at the start and end of their quarantine period so that we can detect asymptomatic cases,” it said.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at an average of two cases a day in the past two weeks.

The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has also remained stable at an average of one case a day in the past 14 days.

MOH reiterated that the inter-agency task force handling the Covid-19 response in Singapore has completed the testing of all workers in the dormitories on Friday.

“Some of the test results are still being processed,” it said, adding that there are currently about 23,500 workers who are still serving out their isolation period at quarantine facilities.

“These workers will be tested when their isolation ends, and we expect the case counts to remain high in the coming days, before tapering down thereafter,” MOH said.

At the same time, no new locations were added to a list of public places that had been visited by an infectious person or persons for two days in a row.

UPDATES ON THE REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 55,104.

Of these, 48,915 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 332 on Sunday.

There are still 135 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in critical condition under intensive care.

Another 6,027 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
