SINGAPORE — Two men will be charged in court on Tuesday (May 12) over their alleged involvement of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons with common intention. They were said to have been involved in a fight in Bishan.

If convicted, the pair face the maximum penalty of lifetime imprisonment, the police said on Monday.

The two men — aged 25 and 30 — were arrested on Sunday within 10 hours of a police report of a 30-year-old man found with multiple injuries along Bishan Street 12 at about 5.40am that day. He had cuts on his head and a fractured hand.

The man was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.

This was the third violent incident reported on Sunday, following a brawl in the wee hours at Chinatown and an alleged murder at night in Punggol.

On the Bishan incident, the police said: “(We) do not tolerate such brazen acts of violence and blatant disregard of the law. We will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them severely in accordance with the law.”

They added: “Through ground inquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identities of the two men and arrested them within 10 hours after the report was lodged.”

The offence carries a life imprisonment, or a jail term of up to 15 years and caning or a fine.

In a separate incident on Sunday, three men were arrested in Chinatown after the police were alerted to a case of alleged rioting with a dangerous weapon along Upper Cross Street.

A video of the brawl has since made the rounds on social media.

In the third incident, the police are investigating a suspected murder case after the death of a 38-year-old man who was found badly injured at Punggol Field. This also happened on Sunday.

The police received a call for assistance in relation to the injured man at about 11pm and the man was taken to Sengkang General Hospital where he died from his injuries.
